A fisher,
martes pennanti is a large marten, in the weasel family,
which lives in the northern portions of the North American continent. It is about
a meter long with dark brown fur, and hunts rodents and porcupines, occasionally
other martens, and even foxes and deer. They are nocturnal and
rarely seen by man.
Fishers are probably not closely connected to the mathematician
Ernst Sigismund Fischer.
