Information about Spam
Spam,
trademark by Hormel, Inc.
is a much maligned, supposedly pure meat product, which was
introduced in 1926 and was an important part of the Allied
effort to keep the populace adequately fed during World War II. It is considered a
delicacy in Hawaii, some Asian countries, and elsewhere, and
is a recurrent feature of
Monty Python
skits. Spam has also become a word on the Internet for inappropriate mass mail; see
various
newsgroups.
Finally, the contributions to mathematical physics of
Ulysses R. Spam and Ignatius Hammephat should
not be overlooked.
